Okay, so I love watching the Snooker each year, but the BBC's recent decision to remove channel 302 from Freeview has got me really annoyed, since now only one of the two tables is usually shown at any given time.
I decided to complain to the BBC Trust about it. Here's my complaint:
Hello,
I would like to complain about the recent removal of the second red button channel (302) from Freeview. This meant that the coverage I had got used to enjoying from the BBC during the World Snooker Championships was a shadow of its former self this year. In previous years, the ability to switch between tables has made following the snooker a great experience on the BBC.
I gather that this was done to use bandwidth for HD channels. While I appreciate that the BBC wants to keep up with the latest technology, to be honest, I don't think that this should be a priority to the extent that it removes other existing coverage, as has been done here.
I was particularly annoyed on the morning of the 27th April when I'd planned to spend the morning at home watching Steve Davis's historic quarter final kick-off with Neil Robertson, but it was unavailable either on the Red Button (301) or BBC 2! I tried to watch it on my computer, but the streaming quality is so low and jittery, that it's unwatchable really.
So, my complaint is twofold. First, that the BBC should not remove existing coverage just to show other already available content using newer technology, especially which isn't even available to the majority (HD). Second, that the BBC has gone against its platform independence commitment by requiring me to purchase a satellite dish or a service from Sky or Virgin in order to watch this coverage.
Thank you.
